Job 6:14鈥30 ()
14听聽聽鈥淗e who withholds1 kindness from a friend
聽聽聽聽forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
15听聽聽My brothers are treacherous as a torrent-bed,
聽聽聽聽as torrential streams that pass away,
16听聽聽which are dark with ice,
聽聽聽聽and where the snow hides itself.
17听聽聽When they melt, they disappear;
聽聽聽聽when it is hot, they vanish from their place.
18听聽聽The caravans turn aside from their course;
聽聽聽聽they go up into the waste and perish.
19听聽聽The caravans of Tema look,
聽聽聽聽the travelers of Sheba hope.
20听聽聽They are ashamed because they were confident;
聽聽聽聽they come there and are disappointed.
21听聽聽For you have now become nothing;
聽聽聽聽you see my calamity and are afraid.
22听聽聽Have I said, 鈥楳ake me a gift鈥?
聽聽聽聽Or, 鈥楩rom your wealth offer a bribe for me鈥?
23听聽聽Or, 鈥楧eliver me from the adversary鈥檚 hand鈥?
聽聽聽聽Or, 鈥楻edeem me from the hand of the ruthless鈥?
24听聽聽鈥淭each me, and I will be silent;
聽聽聽聽make me understand how I have gone astray.
25听聽聽How forceful are upright words!
聽聽聽聽But what does reproof from you reprove?
26听聽聽Do you think that you can reprove words,
聽聽聽聽when the speech of a despairing man is wind?
27听聽聽You would even cast lots over the fatherless,
聽聽聽聽and bargain over your friend.
28听聽聽鈥淏ut now, be pleased to look at me,
聽聽聽聽for I will not lie to your face.
29听聽聽Please turn; let no injustice be done.
聽聽聽聽Turn now; my vindication is at stake.
30听聽聽Is there any injustice on my tongue?
聽聽聽聽Cannot my palate discern the cause of calamity?

John 3:22鈥4:6 ()
John the Baptist Exalts Christ
22听After this Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and he remained there with them and was baptizing. 23听John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized 24听(for John had not yet been put in prison).
25听Now a discussion arose between some of John鈥檚 disciples and a Jew over purification. 26听And they came to John and said to him, 鈥淩abbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness鈥攍ook, he is baptizing, and all are going to him.鈥 27听John answered, 鈥淎 person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. 28听You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 鈥業 am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.鈥 29听The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom鈥檚 voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. 30听He must increase, but I must decrease.鈥1
31听He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32听He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony. 33听Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. 34听For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. 35听The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. 36听Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Jesus and the Woman of Samaria
4:1听Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John 2听(although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), 3听he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. 4听And he had to pass through Samaria. 5听So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6听Jacob鈥檚 well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.2
